Blacklist

The blacklist is an easy way to catch spam before it gets posted to your site. In addition to comment approval, the blacklist should help you keep a low amount of spam appearing on your site.

By default, SimpleLog comes loaded with over 2,000 blacklist items for commonly known spam. You can add new items to the blacklist by simply adding a new line to the list and saving. You can remove any item the same way, by removing a line and saving.

In addition, you can quickly add various parts of any comment to the blacklist by editing the comment and clicking any one of the "add to blacklist" links that appear for various fields. For example: If a comment gets through that is spam, you can go into the edit view of that comment and click the "add to blacklist" link on, say, the URL that was posted. In the future, any comment with that URL will not get through.

The blacklist also accepts regex values, making it even more powerful. Instead of blocking literal URLs, you can use regex to make blocking rules more powerful.

SimpleLog is serious about comment spam protection--a central repository of blacklist rules (called the "SimpleLog clearinghouse") is easily importable at any time. Click the "Import blacklist rules" link in the upper left of the blacklist section to connect to the SimpleLog server and download the rules. None of your information is sent to the server.
